Jeannie specialises in all aspects of Primary English Teaching and Learning. She is an experienced consultant. She received her PhD from the University of Sheffield in 2015 and her research on film education led to her receiving the United Kingdom Literacy Association’s award for research in 2016. Her recent publication ‘Children’s Reading of Film and Visual Literacy in the Primary Curriculum: A Progression Framework Model’ (Palgrave, 2017) has recently been nominated for UKLA’s Academic Book Award 2018. She has also co-authored ‘Film Education, Literacy and Learning’ with Becky Parry (UKLA mini book series). She provides training and consultancy in all areas of English (through course attendance and bespoke in-school consultancy, inset days and twilight training sessions:
- Raising attainment in writing - Developing reading comprehension skills and strategies
- Improving standards in phonics and spelling - Developing the spoken word and drama
- Embedding a visual approach to learning in English – use of film and visual literacy.
She is also an external moderator and can support with English SATs and writing assessments at Key Stages 1 and 2. She provides support for subject leader development, monitoring and action planning as well as bespoke research projects.
Jenny Cook is a freelance Primary Educational Consultant who specialises in mathematics and holds the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the teaching of Mathematics) accreditation of Professional Development Lead. She previously worked for the Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) as a Teaching and Learning Consultant and in 2016 chose to establish her own consultancy business. Jenny was responsible for leading mathematics developments across Lincolnshire including playing a key role in the training of over a hundred Maths Specialist Teachers (MaSTs). Jenny is an experienced class teacher who has taught in a variety of schools including a secondment to North Carolina, USA and a range of primary schools in Lincolnshire, fulfilling the roles of Maths Subject Leader, Deputy Head Teacher and Acting Head Teacher.
Jenny is passionate about primary mathematics and believes that building secure foundations steeped in conceptual understanding, fostering resilience and encouraging curiosity all lead to successful life-long learning in mathematics and children who see maths as a meaningful subject with application in everyday life.
